Stereopal Featured System:    The Late John Sherwood                                                                                 Date: Sept 1, 05

The information below has been provided to Stereopal.com by Mr. Danny Bernstein of the Carolina Audio Society, who has been maintaining John’s website. John was an avid audiophile and a heavy duty DIYer.  He was also a member of the “Bankrupt Boys” Bluegrass Band.

John had a strong background in electronics which includes teaching electronics in the US Airforce in the 60s. He had build a number of Dynaco ST70s and Pax 3-X’s.

The equipment you see in the photo was his last project.

His version of the Welborne Lab 300B is the most exotic amps I have ever seen.  We're talking copper pipes and pine boards !

If a man can build a 2 layer chassis out of copper pipes, you’ll know immediately that he has “got it in him”.

Hedlund Horns Construction

The Hedlund Horns were invented by Jan Hedlund, the Swedish speaker designer.   These horns are not easy to construct as they involve bending sheets of wood veneer.    Hedlund horns are designed to be resonant, and to blend with the music to produce a euphoric and seductive sound.   The are only a hand full of manufacturers who makes these horns commercially.

Welborne Labs 300B

This has got to be coolest chassis I have ever seen.  The wood are straight from the kitchen table “Bread Board”.

Experienced DIY fans will know that there’s more than meets the eye with these amps.

From placement of the transformer to the location of tubes, everything is well thought out.
